We all know Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is coming. Guerrilla Games' open world action RPG resonated instantly with PlayStation fans, and Aloy has become one of PS4's most iconic characters. After such a success, it would be foolish to think the studio would turn its attention elsewhere. According to a new report from VGC, it seems Guerrilla got to work on a follow-up pretty quickly.
Multiple sources have told the site that the developer began work on Horizon 2 "soon after the first game’s successful release". Furthermore, these same sources claim the sequel was planned for release on PS4. However, development has apparently "entirely shifted focus" to PS5.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, but it's interesting to hear Guerrilla was aiming for Horizon 2 to hit PS4 before the next-gen machine came along. While this information isn't totally concrete, it sounds very believable to us. To be honest, we're glad the sequel will make its debut on PS5; it'll certainly make a much bigger impression when we do eventually see it.
Other alleged information concerning Horizon 2 has come to light, too. According to the same report, the game is "gigantic" in scope, and may even include co-op. Imagine hunting huge robo-dinos with a friend on PS5 -- sounds good to us.
Would you have liked to see Horizon Zero Dawn 2 on PS4 rather than PS5? Hunt down a Thunderjaw in the comments below.

It's for the best. I'm sure the PS4 will keep getting support from third parties for years before people fully move on, but Sony should be using their exclusives to help push the technical boundaries of and promote their brand, spanking new hardware.
I'm fine with it being a purely next-gen title. Make full use of the new machine's capabilities without having to worry about how it would run on a Jaguar with a HDD.
If they were aiming for PS4, maybe development is further along than we think? Is there any chance of this being a launch window game? Please?
Yeah I think we all want to see what Guerrilla can do with next-gen hardware. The studio's always been at the cutting edge of console tech.
I want to be able to slide down the back of a giant robot brontosaurus, similar to Fred Flintstone when he finishes work.
I'm honestly quite surprised this may have started life on PS4. Always assumed it'd be a PS5 game from the outset.
@Ralizah. Yes but if you think every games when the ps5 launch is going to be a ps5 exclusive .ps4 will have some too.like the great notorious b.i.g. say you dead wrong.word life.word to your mother.word is bond.word ☝ upson
Hzd yes on ps5 but no to MALTIPLAYER it's a single player story driven game it dont need multiplayer
@playstation1995 Ah... I need a catch phrase.
Well, anyway, I'm not saying Sony won't have some cross-gen support for PS4 with its own games for a while. And that's fine, as far as that goes. It'll take a while for the PS5 to build up a profitable player base, after all. But the biggest exclusive games, which are Sony's bread-and-butter, much like with Nintendo, should be used to drive attention toward their new hardware. I don't want the potential and design of new games being constrained so that they can also run on a weak system with roughly 1/5th the power of the PS5.
Despite the notable differences in power between the XSeX and PS5, that, I think, will probably still lead to PS5 having exclusive games that are more ambitious than anything on Microsoft's hardware, which seems like it'll just be running prettier, 4K versions of games designed around last-gen specs.
Absolutely no surprises there. Would actually like to see Horizon 2 as a PS5-only launch title, if at all possible. If not, then at least in the first year. Would be a system seller, in my personal opinion.
Also wouldn't be at all surprised to see co-op, as it was initially planned for the first game. Would appreciate co-op or any form of multi-player PvE, but absolutely not PvP.
Any1 else who read "bigger breasts" the first time he read the subtitle to this article?
@Adol_Xin yup!
The other article states its a massive game too, which I'm less keen on than any multiplayer however at least fast travel will be actually that. Div 2.... Sllloooooowwwww
@Dan_ozzzy189 @Adol_Xin
Horizon Zero (lotsof) Porn will be what you're after for the weekend sirs!
If development started soon after the release, it makes sense that they could've been targeting a release this year and not knowing when PS5 would be out, targeting PS4 seems fair.
It's exciting to see that we could potentially be pretty close to it though. I know lots of rumours about it being one of the first big exclusives next gen but until we see anything of it it's hard to know
@playstation1995 love the new sign off
@Ralizah. Ok i understand what you saying.but the ps4 pro is extremely powerful.im looking at the graphics and im like wow.im impress.but i dont mind horizon is a ps5 exclusive.with a demon souls remake.and sony come on.buy bluepoint games.kojima.remedy games.etc.word ☝ up son

Still a ways to go in HZD,(& start Frozen Wilds too),yet. Would've loved to have seen a ps4 sequel,but would undoubtedly be a system seller on ps5/incentive to upgrade. Though quick enough to transfer things over & be a ps5 launch title?? No doubts you can imagine it looking stunning,not to mention what they could add to the world with the SSD tech.& tempest engine etc.
Not quite as sold on the co-op mode as HZD was definitely a single player exploration...but Sony did say they wanted to explore online opportunities,so PVE type stuff would be attractive to them.
No plat trophy likely for me,but if I could afford a ps5 would I buy HZD 2? Yep,in a heartbeat!
I'd be so happy if it were a launch title or even Q1 2021
@NotSmartEnough It's a launch game for sure. What else can be ready at launch? GOW2 is unlikely, since GOW released a year after HZD. ND is busy with TLOU2, Spidey is a tad too soon as well. SP is working on Ghost. I think that's most of the big studios. Out of any of those, HZD2 at launch is the most logical.
I always assumed it would be a PS5 game anyways. Really hoping this is a launch (window) game as rumors have suggested.
@playstation1995
What's up playa??!!?? I'm hoping Max Payne will make a resurgence for the PS5!! Either way horizon 2 gonna be dope!!!!
@NYJetsfan123. What's going on fam.you chilling like a villain.max payne 4 for ps5 will be legendary.max payne 3 is a amazing game.im hoping also for a new syphon filter.word up son
Loved hzd but it felt too spare.. Id rather it was fleshed out with more lore and lost civilisations to explore than being a bigger map.
Oh come on. This was never gonna be a PS4 title....never...ever.
Makes perfect sence for a first generation PS5 title. These guys kill it and make a major impression every time.
From a visuals perspective i am literally wetting myself with anticipation. Look what they did with Killzone Shadow Fall. First generation PS4 title and STILL one of the best looking games on the platform.
one horizon game was enough, so if no new killzone, then give something new.
